Given the recent passing of the great Wellington architect Jon Craig, I feel an added responsibility to do a fantastic job the this lovely 1970s Craig Craig and Moller house, owned by three very inspiring people.
This is our latest exploration into the feasibility of a double site development in Eastbourne. These two flats sites were crying our for two groovy "eco" houses designed with families in mind. The main challenge was to organise the spaces to maximise the private outdoor space available and sun!
As there is no view to speak of, we thought that locating the living space on the ground floor with direct access to outdoor living would be best, then 3 bedrooms upstairs (with another bedroom downstairs).
The introduction of roof gardens also maximises the outdoor space and sun. The material selection would be sustainably resourced and along with loads of insulation and max solar gain these houses would be really comfortable and environmentally sensitive.
This is a video of how the shadows track throughout the day at half hour intervals mid summer.
